Subject : [task-force-sahara] VERY URGENT APPEAL : update on oil campaign and drafts letters + draft press release
> Dear all,
>
> Please take the time to read this message. It contains information on the
> Oil Campaign and an urgent appeal to all committees to sign a letter to
> Fugro that will be sent already on TUESDAY 29 JUNE.
> Please note also that all texts attached are DRAFTS and still have to be
> finalized. Do not publish them.
>
> UPDATE
> Yesterday, the answer arrived finally of Fugro on our letter of 7th of June.
> The president and chief executive officer Mr Kramer stated that the survey
> executed by one of its subsidiaries (without mentioning its name) had been
> completed and that there is no UN embargo on Western Sahara. This means that
> Fugro suggested that for that reason carrying-out of survey activities in
> Western Sahara was not illegal.
> In fact, we already suspected that the survey was to be completed to the end
> of June, and thought that Fugro only wanted to stall the time until the
> survey would have been completed.
> And we found out in the meantime that the subsidiaries Svitzer and Robertson
> (both UK based) are the ones being involved.
> The UK, Norwegian and Dutch committees consulted each other and decided to
> to go ahead with a slightly adapted campaign plan, and indeed with great
> urgency.
>
> THE CAMPAIGN
> The outlines of the plan stayed as described by Erik Hagen (Norwegian
> Committee) :
> Letter to Fugro N.V. (Board and Supervisoruy Board) – see attachment for the
> draft letter) ;
> Copies of letter to Fugro to Robertson Research International and to
> Svitzer, accompanied by letters of the Western Sahara Campaign and signed by
> the coordinator of the WSC respectivily by the Welsh member of the board of
> WSC.
> Letter to some of the (known) shareholders of Fugro- see attachment for the
> draft letter – this letter still has to be adapted to the new situation ;
> International press release on the same day – see attachment for the draft
> text.
> All committees can, once the press release issued, use the same text to of
> this press release to inform the
> national/local press.
> Please take note that all attached text are still DRAFTS to be finalized on
> Monday or Tuesday morning at latest.
>
> URGENT APPEAL TO ALL COMMITTEES :
> It is really important to show our force and sign the letter to Fugro with
> as many committees – solidarity organizations as possible. Of course it
> would be marvellous to have signatures of other NGOs, but the time is
> limited (one day !). We can try and have more ngo’s and
> individuals/personnalities involved in a later phase of the campaign. In
> that way, a real internation coalition for the protection of the natural
> resources in Western Sahara can be build.
> Please confirm your willingness to sign the letter to
> liesbethdenhaan@planet.nl as soon as possible, at latest Monday evening
> 24.00 h. Do not forget to mention the exact name of the organization and the
> name and function of the person authorising the signature.
>
> I hope you are many to respond ! If you call me and get my answering device,
> please leave your name and telnumber and I will call back in the evening
> (after 19.00 h) – or send an e-mail.
>
> Thanks, best regards,
